Read Across America!

In honor of Read Across America day and Dr. Seuss' birthday this week, Genevieve and I read Dr. Seuss' book of ABC's. Get ready for some fun activities this week!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful weather! I was able to visit with some family and friends in Ste Genevieve and today took a nice hike on the Lewis and Clark trail. Carson was one happy pup! Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

If you haven't turned in the yellow conference form, please do so! Thanks!

International Fair!

I have to start by saying, research isn't the easiest in kindergarten without the technology for them to create and use, so we made it a joint effort for me to do the research and then whole group investigations. From there they split into groups and OH.MY.WORD, this dear teacher was blown away! They did so great on their presentation boards, group work and taking ownership of what their focus was. They became Bahamian experts and did so fabulous! Thanks to those who continued the research at home and sent things in. From our decor to creations to our facts, this Kinder Crew did a stellar job!

Book Buddies!

The Humane Society has a program where children can read to the dogs. I have seen this in action and steal my heart, it's precious. What a great activity for both the child and the dog. If you're kinder is a pet lover, this is something you should definitely look into. If you participate, PLEASE take pics to share! Thank you to Mrs. Lamont for sharing:

International Fair..

Hi Kinder Crew! I hope your enjoying this unexpected snow day. The opening ceremony for the International Fair will be tomorrow so please plan on wearing your field trip shirts tomorrow! It will now just be one day. The kids did a great job researching and creating with very little help from me. I'm very proud of them! I will post pictures tomorrow.

So Proud!

Tonight I got to go to Addison's first orchestra concert. I'm beyond proud of her! She is so special to me and will forever have a big chunk of my heart.

Bahama Research in Action!

During Daily 5 today my small group did some research and were assigned as "team captains" for a particular topic that they'll research, create and present next week.

Springboard!

Today Ms. Hassenstab had ballet class in the gym for our Wesnesday Springboard session. They are all doing awesome! It's great for motor skills, self discipline, getting out of their comfort zone and the list goes on! I encourage you to ask your kinder about some of the positions and moves they've learned and the French words to go along with it.

MizzouRAH!

Nothing better than a tiny Tiger fan!

Heart Science

During enrichment time yesterday afternoon, Mr. Watson came in to lend a helping hand in some fun science! We did sink/float activities and conversation hearts in Sprite to see them "dance."  We noticed in the Sprite all our pinks went to the top and none of the other colors did which led to an impromptu investigation and experiment in which we separated all the colors and put them each in separate cups of Sprite. So fun!

Scooping Up Hearts

We had some fun with place value today scooping up hearts, counting them out by 2's and then recording our tens, ones and the number they make. We all had fun with this!

A Closer Look..

After Winter Break, I added glasses to the read to self center. I just love sneaking pics like this! They put a big smile on this dear teacher's face and certainly warms my heart seeing them wrapped up in a good book.

Heart to Hearts!

After our morning at the symphony, we had a fun afternoon all about the heart. We incorporated math, writing and my sister was kind enough to let us borrow her stethoscope. We read about kid's hearts beating faster than an adults so we put it to the test. Half the class listened today to my heart beat and their, the rest will finish tomorrow.

Scholastic...

I'm placing a Scholastic order tomorrow morning if you're interested in purchasing. Thanks!

All About the Heart!

Today we started a new science mini-unit: the heart. We first used our schema to chart things we already know about the heart. They sure had their smarty pants on today! They came up with some really great things. We then discussed things that are good/harmful for the heart. We will explore a nonfiction text about the heart this afternoon and incorporate some writing and math in our theme as well!

Work on Writing/Word Work

These are our "work on writing" and "word work" centers for Daily 5 this week: writing about love, February sentence writing, digraphs and signing our sight words!

Fun-Filled Weekend!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was jam packed celebrating my Grandma's 79th birthday, making a trip to Dan and I's old stomping grounds-Columbia for a concert, spending time with my niece and hosting Super Bowl festivities!

Springboard

Springboard with Ms. Hassenstab. They are learning all about ballet. They are slowly but surely all coming around to liking this :). I danced for several years and taught up until last year so I'm jumping in where I can to hype it up! I will say it's teaching some great self control.

Seasonal Inferences

Today we did some group work, making inferences. We first reviewed our GROUP expectations and then got to work. Each group read a passage and then used their schema and context clues to make an inference as to what season they were reading about. They did a great job with group work, participation and speaking/presenting skills!

Black History Project!...Due Friday, 2/5

Black History Writing Project will come home tomorrow.  Each child will bring home a heart with a name of a famous African American.  You and your child should research this particular person and write 2-3 sentences on: who they are and what they are remembered for.  Please have your kinder write their name on the BACK of the heart and cut the heart out.  We will be making a class book after they present these on Friday.  Each kinder will take a turn bringing the finished project home to share with their family.  Thank you for your support at home!
Project Due: Friday, 2/5
