Math: Carrying Tens

Good Morning!  Today we'll use this fun song to revisit what we touched on yesterday, carrying tens in double digit addition.  We also did double digit subtraction without borrowing.

This week in science we'll be talking about our environment and things we can do to help make it a great place!  Today we discussed reducing, reusing, recycling.  They enjoyed the Three R's song by Jack Johnson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSM2riAEX4U

Brownie Points!

This sweet crew earned a brownie point celebration today from earning 10 brownie points as a team. At the end of each day if we earned more "smilies" than "frownies" we earn a brownie point. They voted on donuts and The Peanuts Movie!

Moon Craters

This week in science we explored the sun, moon, and stars. Yesterday we investigated moon craters with a hands on experiment outside. The crew really enjoyed this! Please ask your kinder to tell you about their observations.

Addison and Ethan VIP

Tuman went to Andy's to get ice cream with Addison and Ethan. After that, we watched the Blues game. The next day Truman got to go to Addison's soccer game. Addison tied 2-2. Truman had a very fun weekend and I hope that you did too!

Genius Hour!

The crew got a great start on their projects yesterday! We'll be finishing Monday and presenting to their peers and we encourage you to come on Friday at 3:40 to see their hard work! It's been fun for me to step back and let the kids take charge of their learning.

A Visit from Chemo Duck

We've loved having Aaron back in the mornings. Yesterday Aaron shared a book with us all about his hospital visit and important information about his diagnosis. Today Aaron showed us Chemo Duck and taught us about his port and was able to show us on his duck and explained the process that he goes through. It was so neat to step back and watch him teach and his pals to be so invested in what he was talking about. Happy heart today.

More Manners!

I LOVE these two manners!

Kiddle: Kid's Search Engine

I was introduced to this site a few weeks ago and just fell in love!  It is perfect for children's research.  To sum it up, it's Google for KIDS.  They can search any topic they want to know about and it will bring up kid appropriate information/pictures/videos.  We've been using this in the classroom and it is fabulous.  If something is not kid appropriate that is typed in, the search engine will ask you to try again.  Highly recommend!

Interactive Reading

Today in reading, we read a book in a whole group lesson then split off to discuss the question words of our story. We came back together as a group and these five were team speakers.

Manners #7 and #8

I already had a very polite crew, but these kinders are shining bright with our manners challenge!

Ms. Eagan and I enjoyed visiting with Aaron this afternoon ๐Ÿ˜Š. His Ninjago Lego set was quite impressive! We can't wait to have him back for half days!

Manner #6

As soon as we read this, they said "you always say that Ms. Gegg" and they're right. We often talk about positive attitudes and keeping our negative thoughts to ourselves.

Clouds

We are studying clouds in science.  More specifically, we are studying these four: cirrus, stratus, cumulus, cumulonimbus.  We were a bit chatty at the carpet this afternoon and lost some good research time :( .  I told them I'd post the link if they'd like to do some research at home and can share their knowledge tomorrow.

Manner Challenge!

Here's our 2 manners for today for our manners challenge. We discussed waiting patiently if two adults are talking and it's not an emergency; and if it is an emergency, use the phrase "excuse me."

The Writing Process!

Today we discussed all the steps of the writing process and for the remainder of the year students will go through the whole process for each piece of writing. BIG NEWS, we are now writing paragraphs! You will start seeing their final copies coming home.

Aaron was our VIP. Truman stepped in and helped "Dr. Chemo Duck." We miss you buddy! Keep being brave!

Manner's Challenge!

We'll be discussing 25 manners over the next few weeks. We'll role play and discuss these. I encourage you to ask your kinder about the manner(s) of the day to implement at home also!

Main Idea!

This week we are focusing on the main idea in reading: what the story is mostly about in one-two sentences.
I Wanna New Room by: Karen Kaufman Orloff
Main Idea: Alex wants a new room to have space from his little brother.  His dad built him his own tree house, but in the end he decided he'd like his brother to join.
Fish is Fish by: Leo Lionni
Main Idea: The fish and the frog realize that they are different and have to live in different habitats, but they can still be friends.
Nugget and Fang by: Tammi Sauer/Michael Slack
Main Idea: This story was about a shark, Fang, and a minnow, Nugget, and their friendship.  When Nugget went to school, his minnow friends tried to teach him that sharks are not friends and they are too scary.  Fang ends up saving the school of minnows and they realized not all sharks are bad.
*This is one of Ms. Gegg's most favorite stories!  We had such a good conversation on SO many things from this one book: text-to-text connections, text-to-movie connections, onomatopoeia words, friendship, dialogue/quotation marks, and feelings!  What a fun reading lesson driven by a very engaged Kinder Crew!
